Central Park, Sep 28–Oct 4: five clear days and 80° Thursday, SummerStage closes, and City of Forest Day in the North Woods

One wet Monday, and then the park gets its best run of weather since August: five consecutive clear days, topping out at 80° on Thursday. SummerStage closes for the year that same evening, and next Saturday the Conservancy takes families into the North Woods for City of Forest Day.

Weather this week

Monday is 65° with an 80% chance of light rain — get it over with. Then Tuesday 71°, Wednesday 74°, Thursday 80° and Friday 78°, all mostly sunny with a 0–11% rain chance. Saturday eases to 71° with a 21% chance. Thursday is very likely the last 80° day of the year.

Mon Sep 28 — the last wet day

80% light rain at 65°, and one thing booked: New York Rock’n’roll at Bandshell Plaza 5–7 PM. Otherwise the park is empty and damp.

Tue Sep 29 – Wed Sep 30 — it clears, and the Great Lawn comes back

Tuesday: 71°, mostly sunny, no rain at all. Busking at the Bandshell 1–3 PM. Bowling Green closes all day for maintenance.

Wednesday: 74° and sunny, with three evening gatherings — a 25th Anniversary at Hernshead 5–7 PM, Serenade at Bandshell Plaza 6–7 PM, and a Starlight Dinner at Minton Arcade 6–9 PM. Wednesday is also the last day of the Global Citizen permit: the Great Lawn is released on October 1 after twelve days held.

Thu Oct 1 — 80°, and Charley Crockett closes the season

Charley Crockett plays Rumsey Playfield 7–10 PM with Durand Jones and the Indications. This is the last SummerStage show of 2026 — the series goes dark until May 2027. An 80° October evening is a good way to end six months of programming.

That morning, a Central Park Conservancy Birding Event meets at the Swedish Cottage 9–11 AM. Fall migration is still running.

Fri Oct 2 — free music, four hours of it

Free Community Music Live takes Bandshell Plaza 3–7 PM on a 78° afternoon. Birding Basics at Belvedere at 10, the Iconic Views tour at 2.

Sat Oct 3 — City of Forest Day in the North Woods

Wonder in the Woods is the Conservancy’s City of Forest Day: a family morning of discovery in the North Woods, meeting at Gottesman Pool at the Davis Center from 10 AM, with a second session at Arsenal Plaza 11 AM–2 PM. The North Woods in early October is the best argument the park makes for itself.

  Kingman Classic Singles Tournament on Bowling Green, 10 AM–4 PM — lawn bowls, and the second tournament there in a fortnight.
  Model Yacht Racing at Kerbs 9 AM–3 PM; UnityMarketsNY at Farmers’ Gate 9–7.
  That Guitar Man from Central Park at Hernshead, noon–6 PM.
  Seneca Village Tour at 2 PM from Mariners’ Gate.

East Meadow is closed, and 38 private ceremony bookings land Saturday — Cop Cot, Ladies’ Pavilion, Wagner Cove and Dene Lawn are all spoken for, and there are ceremonies on Bow Bridge and Gapstow Bridge late in the day.

Sun Oct 4 — bagels, yoga, and folkdancers

A gentle one. Bagels in the Park at the East 72nd Street Playground 9–11 AM. Yoga at Dalehead Arch 10–11:30. Birding Basics at Belvedere Castle at 10, the Seneca Village Tour at 2, Vision Boarding at Cherry Hill 1–3 PM, and the International Folkdancers at King Jagiello Plaza 11–6.

Steady all week

  Bethesda Terrace and Fountain — closed all day, every day, and the permits now run to October 27.
  New Dendrology at the Arsenal Gallery, weekdays 9–5, free.
  Bird Watching with Birding Bob — five mornings from Strawberry Fields.
  East Meadow closed both weekend days; East 106th Street lawn out Monday–Thursday; Columbus Circle Food Market Thursday through Sunday.
  211 field permits — 91 at Heckscher, 89 at North Meadow, 21 on the tennis courts. Still none on the Great Lawn, and none booked there for the rest of the season.
