Central Park, Sep 26–Oct 2: the Global Citizen Festival gets soaked, then four beautiful days and SummerStage's last night

A week of two halves, and the hinge is Tuesday. The weekend is wet — genuinely wet, 92% today and 96% tomorrow — and the Global Citizen Festival plays the Great Lawn this afternoon straight into it. Then Tuesday the rain stops dead and the park gets four consecutive days of 72–77° sunshine, closing with Charley Crockett and SummerStage’s final night of the season on Thursday.

Saturday is 61° with a 92% chance of rain and 98% overnight; Sunday is 67° and 96%; Monday still 78%. Then it breaks completely — Tuesday 72° and partly sunny at 2%, Wednesday 76°, Thursday and Friday both 77° and mostly sunny. Three soaking days, then the best four days in a month.

Sat Sep 26, 2–10 PM — the Global Citizen Festival, in the rain

The Global Citizen Festival takes the Great Lawn — artists and world leaders on the global food crisis and debt relief, free by ticket lottery. It is going ahead in 61° and steady rain, so if you have tickets, dress for eight hours of it.

Mid-park is gone from noon. Both transverses and every Great Lawn approach carry the crowd. Runners and cyclists: the loop is open but people will be crossing it all afternoon and evening.

The morning, wet as it is, has a lot in it:

• Free Yoga in Central Park on East Meadow at 11, with CPC Yoga alongside it.
• Conservatory Garden Tour at 11 — behind the scenes with the staff, and the garden is turning.
• Novice Singles Tournament on Bowling Green 8 AM–5 PM, both weekend days.
• Model Yacht Racing at Kerbs 9–3, UnityMarketsNY at Farmers’ Gate 9–7, the Farmstand at Dana Discovery Center 9 AM–8 PM.
• Summer Muse on the East 102nd Street landscape 4–10 PM, and tango at the Shakespeare Statue 6–9 PM.

Saturday also carries 44 private ceremony bookings — the heaviest day this series has recorded, and all of it under rain.

Sun Sep 27 — 96% rain, so plan for a roof

Pinocchio and Geppetto’s NYC Adventure at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, 2–3 PM, is the day’s best call — indoors, and a new production.

Outdoors if you are undeterred: Greyhounds of NYC Meetup on the Dairy Lawn 10 AM–1 PM, International Sunday at Bandshell Plaza 10–2, International Folkdancers at King Jagiello 11–6, Birding Basics at Belvedere at 10 and the Seneca Village Tour at 2.

Mon Sep 28 – Wed Sep 30 — the turn

Monday still carries showers at 78% and one event: New York Rock’n’roll at Bandshell Plaza 5–7 PM.

Tuesday is the pivot — 72°, partly sunny, a 2% rain chance, and almost nothing booked but Busking at the Bandshell 1–3 PM. Bowling Green closes all day for maintenance. If you have been waiting out the weather, Tuesday is your day.

Wednesday warms to 76° and sunny: a 25th Anniversary gathering at Hernshead 5–7 PM, Serenade at the Bandshell 6–7 PM, and a Starlight Dinner at Minton Arcade 6–9 PM. Wednesday is also when the Global Citizen permit ends — the Great Lawn comes back on October 1.

Thu Oct 1, 7–10 PM — Charley Crockett closes SummerStage

Charley Crockett plays Rumsey Playfield with Durand Jones and the Indications — the last SummerStage show of 2026. After Thursday the series is dark until May. 77° and mostly sunny, which is the send-off it deserves.

Earlier, a Central Park Conservancy Birding Event meets at the Swedish Cottage 9–11 AM.

Fri Oct 2 — free music at the Bandshell

Free Community Music Live takes Bandshell Plaza 3–7 PM. Birding Basics at Belvedere at 10, the Iconic Views tour at 2. 77° and partly sunny.

Steady all week

• Bethesda Terrace and Fountain — still closed all day, every day, and the permits now run to October 25, twelve days later than the record showed last week.
• New Dendrology at the Arsenal Gallery, weekdays 9–5, free — the right call for a wet weekend.
• Bird Watching with Birding Bob — five mornings from Loeb Boathouse. Fall migration is still running.
• East Meadow closed both weekend days; East 106th Street lawn out Monday–Thursday.
• 223 field permits — 100 at Heckscher, 92 at North Meadow, 21 on the tennis courts, and still zero on the Great Lawn.
