Central Park, Sep 26–Oct 2: a soaked Global Citizen Festival, marionettes on a wet Sunday, and Charley Crockett closes the season

The weekend is wet and the week is glorious. Global Citizen plays the Great Lawn this afternoon in steady rain; Sunday is a 96% washout best spent under the Swedish Cottage’s roof. Then Tuesday everything clears, and the park gets four days of 72–77° sunshine ending with SummerStage’s final show of 2026 on Thursday night.

Saturday is 61° with 92% rain; Sunday 67° and 96%; Monday 67° and 78%. Tuesday it stops — 72° and partly sunny at 2% — then 76°, 77°, 77° through Friday. Plan indoors for the weekend and outdoors for everything after it.

Sat Sep 26, 2–10 PM — Global Citizen, rain and all

The Global Citizen Festival takes the Great Lawn: artists and world leaders on the global food crisis and debt relief, free by ticket lottery. It goes ahead in the rain. Eight hours, 61°, so layer properly if you have tickets.

Mid-park is committed from noon, so do anything else in the morning:

• Free Yoga in Central Park on East Meadow at 11, with CPC Yoga alongside.
• Conservatory Garden Tour at 11 — the garden is turning, and it is lovely in rain.
• Novice Singles Tournament on Bowling Green, 8 AM–5 PM, both weekend days — lawn bowls, and a curiosity worth ten minutes.
• Model Yacht Racing at Kerbs 9 AM–3 PM; UnityMarketsNY at Farmers’ Gate 9–7; the Farmstand at Dana Discovery Center 9 AM–8 PM.
• MSA Outdoor Meet on the lawn outside the tennis courts, 9 AM–1 PM.
• Summer Muse on the East 102nd Street landscape 4–10 PM; tango at the Shakespeare Statue 6–9 PM.

Sun Sep 27 — 96% rain, so go to the puppets

Pinocchio and Geppetto’s NYC Adventure at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre, 2–3 PM. A new production, under a roof, on the wettest day of the week — this is the obvious call with children.

If you would rather be out in it: the Greyhounds of NYC Meetup fills the Dairy Lawn 10 AM–1 PM (precisely what it sounds like, and greyhounds in raincoats is its own reward), International Sunday at Bandshell Plaza 10 AM–2 PM, International Folkdancers at King Jagiello 11–6, Birding Basics at Belvedere at 10, and the Seneca Village Tour at 2.

Mon Sep 28 – Wed Sep 30 — rock’n’roll, then the clearing

Monday, still showery, brings New York Rock’n’roll to Bandshell Plaza 5–7 PM.

Tuesday is the turn — 72° and sunny — with Busking at the Bandshell 1–3 PM. Bowling Green closes all day for maintenance.

Wednesday is 76° and sunny, and the Bandshell keeps going: a 25th Anniversary gathering at Hernshead 5–7 PM, Serenade at Bandshell Plaza 6–7 PM, and a Starlight Dinner at Minton Arcade 6–9 PM.

Thu Oct 1, 7–10 PM — Charley Crockett closes SummerStage

Charley Crockett plays Rumsey Playfield with Durand Jones and the Indications — the last SummerStage show of the year. The series goes dark after Thursday and does not return until May 2027, so if you have been meaning to catch one, this is it. 77° and mostly sunny.

A Central Park Conservancy Birding Event meets at the Swedish Cottage 9–11 AM the same morning.

Fri Oct 2 — free music at the Bandshell

Free Community Music Live, Bandshell Plaza 3–7 PM — four hours, free, on a 77° afternoon. Birding Basics at Belvedere at 10 and the Iconic Views tour at 2.

Steady all week

• Bethesda Terrace and Fountain closed all day, every day — and the permits now run to October 25, twelve days later than the record showed a week ago.
• New Dendrology at the Arsenal Gallery, weekdays 9–5, free and indoors. The right move this weekend.
• Bird Watching with Birding Bob — five mornings from Loeb Boathouse.
• 223 field permits — 100 at Heckscher, 92 at North Meadow, and 21 on the tennis courts, up from six a week ago.
