Central Park Sports This Week: Jul 24–30 — Team Champs Sunday, model-yacht racing, and a stacked permit weekend
Hi sports fans — a full slate. The fields are booked heavy all week, the Conservatory Water regatta sails Saturday, and Sunday brings the marquee race: the NYRR Team Championships on the loop. The weekend’s dry; the midweek rain will scrub some of Tuesday and Wednesday’s games.
Weather this week
Sunny and low-to-mid 80s Friday through Sunday, then thunderstorms Monday evening and a wet Tuesday and Wednesday before Thursday clears. The weekend games are safe; expect Tuesday’s card and some of Wednesday’s to wash out.
Fri Jul 24 — a normal busy Friday
Sunny, 83°F. About 41 sport permits across the South Dead Road, the Great Lawn, and the North Meadow — softball, soccer training, and the CP Sports summer program running its usual daytime blocks. Nothing unusual, just full fields.
Sat Jul 25 — the big field day, plus the regatta
82°F and sunny — the busiest fields of the week at roughly 53 permits. Two to watch beyond the leagues: model-yacht racing on Conservatory Water from 9 AM at Kerbs Boathouse, and the Central Park Skate Circle rolling at Dead Road at 2 PM. The East Meadow is closed all weekend, so games shift off it.
Sun Jul 26 — Team Championships 5M, and the fullest card
The week’s headline: the NYRR Team Championships 5M at 7:30 AM, ~5,000 club runners on the full loop from the 102nd Street Cross Drive, double points in the Club Points Series. Underneath it, the day carries the week’s heaviest permit load — around 70 — plus the Skate Circle again at 2 PM. East Meadow still closed.
Mon Jul 27 — full slate, storm risk late
86°F with thunderstorms possible by evening; about 52 permits on the books, though the late games are the ones at risk. Cedar Hill and Pilgrim Hill go offline for maintenance.
Tue Jul 28 — rain scrubs the card
Showers and thunderstorms all day. Some 59 permits are scheduled, but expect the fields to sit — a washout more than a game day.
Wed Jul 29 — an annual softball event at Heckscher
More showers, 83°F. The 2026 Annual Softball Event takes Heckscher Fields from 11 AM — a marked tournament rather than a routine league block — and Universal Kids Soccer runs up on the East 106th Street lawn. Weather-dependent.
Thu Jul 30 — drying out, Bowling Green offline
Mostly sunny, 84°F, and back to a full slate around 51 permits. One note for the lawn-bowling crowd: Bowling Green Lawn is closed for maintenance, so that’s out today.
