Central Park Music & Performance: Jul 24–30 — SummerStage's Julieta Venegas, a Bandshell dance milestone, and a free Great Lawn concert

Hi music fans — a rich, varied week: a park-institution guitarist on the Lake, tango on Literary Walk, a Latin-alt-pop marquee at SummerStage, and free concerts bookending it. The weekend and Thursday are dry; the midweek shows carry a rain asterisk.

Sunny and low-to-mid 80s Friday through Sunday, then thunderstorms Monday evening and a wet Tuesday and Wednesday before Thursday clears. The outdoor weekend programming is safe; keep an eye on the sky for Tuesday’s Bandshell dance and Wednesday’s Rumsey headliner.

Fri Jul 24 — a quiet, meditative note

No concert today, but Bandshell Plaza hosts a midday Peace in the Park meditation gathering — ambient rather than a performance, but the Bandshell in a contemplative mood is its own kind of listening.

Sat Jul 25 — guitar on the Lake, tango on Literary Walk

Three to catch. That Guitar Man From Central Park plays Hernshead on the Lake at noon — a beloved fixture. A community concert fills Bandshell Plaza at 2 PM. And at 6 PM, tango under the Shakespeare statue on Literary Walk, live music and dancers on the mall.

Sun Jul 26 — steppers and folk dance

The Central Park International Folkdancers gather at King Jagiello Plaza by Turtle Pond at 11 AM, and there’s a steppers performance and dance demo at Summit Rock at 1:30 PM — percussion and movement on the park’s high west-side outcrop.

Mon Jul 27 — young voices at the Bandshell

A high school choir concert takes Bandshell Plaza at 5 PM. Storms are possible by evening, so it may run early or move — worth checking before you head over.

Tue Jul 28 — a 50-year dance milestone

National Dance Institute’s 50th Anniversary “Runs and Leaps” fills Bandshell Plaza at noon — a landmark for the NYC arts-education institution. It’s a wet day, so confirm before you go.

Wed Jul 29 — the week’s marquee: Julieta Venegas at Rumsey

Julieta Venegas, Lasso, Micro TDH, and DJ Anamaria Sayre headline SummerStage at Rumsey Playfield at 6 PM — the Latin alt-pop centerpiece of the week. Doors and the queue build from about 5:30; showers are in the forecast, so bring a layer.

Thu Jul 30 — a free double bill

Two free shows to close the week: a salsa community event at the Dana Discovery Center on the Harlem Meer at 4 PM, and free concerts on the Great Lawn at 7 PM as the weather clears.
