Central Park Music & Performance: Mon Jul 6 – Sun Jul 12
Central Park Music & Performance: Mon Jul 6 – Sun Jul 12
Hi music fans,
A loaded midweek: free classical at Naumburg Tuesday, then two big free SummerStage nights back-to-back — Spoon Wednesday and Shaggy Thursday. The weekend adds a lakeside guitar legend and Sunday folk dancing, all of it free.
Weather this week
Thunderstorms Monday and Tuesday in the mid-70s, then clearing and warming through the week — comfortable low 80s Wednesday, up to the low 90s by Friday and storm-flecked in the upper 80s over the weekend. Tuesday’s Naumburg show carries the only real rain question — these Bandshell concerts rarely scrub and storms tend to clear by curtain, but check the radar before you head over; Wednesday onward is fine outdoor-listening weather.
Tue Jul 7, 7:30 PM — Delirium Musicum at the Naumburg Bandshell (free)
The week’s centerpiece for the classically inclined: Delirium Musicum plays the free Naumburg Orchestral Concerts series at the Bandshell on the Mall, 7:30 PM — the oldest free outdoor classical series in the country, and this LA-based string collective brings real fire to it. Bring a blanket and get there early for a spot near the shell.
Wed Jul 8, 6 PM — Spoon / Ratboys / Bodega at Rumsey Playfield (free)
The big free SummerStage night: Spoon headlines Rumsey at 6 PM, with Ratboys, Bodega, and host Alisa Ali — indie-rock heavyweights on a free bill, on the week’s most comfortable evening. Free lines for a name like Spoon form well before doors, so arrive early.
Thu Jul 9, 7 PM — Shaggy’s Yaad at Rumsey Playfield (free)
Turned up loud: “Shaggy’s Yaad” — Shaggy with a deep guest list (Robin Thicke, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Rayvon, and more) at Rumsey, 7 PM, free — a full dancehall-and-reggae bill on a warm 89° evening. Another early-arrival night.
Sat Jul 11, noon–6 PM — That Guitar Man From Central Park at Hernshead
A gentler weekend note: “That Guitar Man From Central Park” plays his long-running set at Hernshead on the Lake, noon–6 PM — one of the park’s most scenic spots to catch live guitar, right on the water off the West Drive.
Sun Jul 12, 11 AM — Central Park International Folkdancers at King Jagiello Plaza (free)
Close the week in motion: the International Folkdancers hold their weekly free gathering at King Jagiello Plaza by Turtle Pond from 11 AM — live folk music and open circles you can join or just listen to.
