Central Park Music & Performance: Fri Jul 3 – Thu Jul 9
Central Park Music & Performance: Fri Jul 3 – Thu Jul 9
Hi music fans,
A rich back half of the week: free classical at Naumburg, then two nights of free SummerStage at Rumsey. The front half is quieter — the heat saw to that, taking one show off the board entirely.
Weather this week
A dangerous 100° today and 96° on the Fourth already forced one cancellation, before the week cools into a showery, storm-prone stretch (upper 70s–low 80s) from Sunday on. The outdoor shows that matter are Tuesday through Thursday, when it’s cooler — keep an eye on the radar for the Tue/Wed storm chance, but these venues rarely scrub for a passing cell.
Fri Jul 3 — Odd Mob at Rumsey is OFF (heat)
Heads-up if you had a ticket: SummerStage cancelled tonight’s Odd Mob benefit show at Rumsey Playfield, rescheduling it to 2027 because of the extreme-heat threat. Nothing else on the music calendar tonight — sit this scorcher out.
Sun Jul 5 — Central Park International Folkdancers, King Jagiello, 11 AM (free)
A gentler note: the International Folkdancers hold their weekly free gathering at King Jagiello Plaza (by Turtle Pond) at 11 AM — live folk music and open circles, worth a listen if you’re near Belvedere on a cooler 85° morning.
Tue Jul 7 — Delirium Musicum at Naumburg Bandshell, 7:30 PM (free)
The week’s centerpiece for the classically inclined: Delirium Musicum plays the Naumburg Orchestral Concerts series at the Bandshell on the Mall, 7:30 PM, free — the oldest free outdoor classical series in the country. Bring a blanket; storms tend to clear by curtain, but check before you head over.
Wed Jul 8 — Spoon / Ratboys / Bodega at Rumsey, 6 PM (free)
The big free SummerStage night: Spoon headlines Rumsey Playfield at 6 PM, with Ratboys, Bodega, and host Alisa Ali — indie-rock heavyweights on a free bill, cooler at 84°. Get there early; free SummerStage lines for a name like Spoon form well before doors.
Thu Jul 9 — Shaggy’s Yaad at Rumsey, 7 PM (free)
Closing the week loud: “Shaggy’s Yaad” — Shaggy with a deep guest list (Robin Thicke, Tanto Metro & Devonte, Rayvon, and more) at Rumsey, 7 PM, free. A full dancehall-and-reggae bill on a warm 88° evening; arrive early for this one too.
