A heat wave makes this a dawn-and-dusk week — the cool, quiet hours are the practice, and the shaded sanctuaries are where to find stillness. One outdoor class lands midweek; the rest is about timing the light and the heat.

Building heat all week — 96° Wed, 100° Thu, 101° Fri, easing slightly over a stormy Fourth. Claim the dawn window for any practice and retreat to shade and water by mid-morning; sunrise is around 5:30 and it’s the only truly cool, gentle hour you’ll get.

Wed Jul 1, 6 PM — Central Park Afro Vinyasa Yoga (Sheep Meadow)

The week’s one scheduled class: Afro Vinyasa Yoga on Sheep Meadow at 6 PM — flowing movement to Afrobeat rhythm as the day cools. It’s still a warm evening, so bring water and a light mat towel. One heads-up: SummerStage at nearby Rumsey starts at 5 PM the same evening, so the southwest-central area will carry music and crowds — lovely energy for some, but if you want quiet, this isn’t the calm corner tonight.

Mon–Fri — dawn practice and shaded stillness

With the heat building, your contemplative spaces are the shaded, water-cooled ones: Hallett Nature Sanctuary, the Ramble, the North Woods, and the Conservatory Garden at opening hold their cool the longest. Summit Rock (the park’s highest point) catches an early breeze for a sunrise sit. Practice at first light, then let the middle of the day go.

Sat Jul 4 & Sun Jul 5 — find solitude up north

The holiday fills the southern lawns; for solitude, the wild north end — the Ravine, the Loch, the North Woods — stays shaded and quiet even on the Fourth. Sunday’s storms may break the heat and leave the Loch’s waterfalls running full, a restorative spot for a slow post-rain walk.
