Open drives all week — no races, no closures, no loop-occupying events. The two things to ride around this week are a building heat wave and a FIFA World Cup staging footprint parked at Columbus Circle.

Weather this week

Rideable mornings Monday and Tuesday (mid-80s), then a brutal climb — 96° Wed, 100° Thu, 101° Fri, 97° on the Fourth with afternoon storms. Roll early all week and carry more water than you think you need; from Wednesday on, anything after 9 AM is a sufferfest, and the afternoons are genuinely unsafe.

Mon Jun 29 — clean, open loop

Nothing on the drives. A normal early-morning loop before the heat settles in. Good day for repeats if you want them before the week closes in.

Tue Jun 30 & Sun Jul 5 — FIFA bus ops at Columbus Circle

FIFA World Cup bus operations stage at Columbus Circle from 6 AM both days. The loop itself stays open, but expect buses and pedestrian congestion choking the Merchants’ Gate / Columbus Circle entrance — the SW corner you’d normally roll in and out of. Enter and exit at W 72nd or Engineers’ Gate (90th & 5th) to skip the snarl. Storms Tuesday night.

Wed Jul 1 – Fri Jul 3 — the heat, not the calendar

The drives are wide open midweek, but 96°/100°/101° is the story. Be clipped in by 6:30 and off the loop before the sun gets high. SummerStage spectator crowds spill toward East Drive near 72nd after 5 PM Wednesday (Shabaka) and Friday (Odd Mob) — only relevant if you’re chasing a rare cooler-evening ride; ride the west side or go before the gates open.

Sat Jul 4 & Sun Jul 5 — holiday crowds, early rolls

The Fourth is 97° with afternoon thunderstorms and holiday foot traffic building mid-morning — dawn is your only clean, cool window. Sunday backs off the peak, but mind the FIFA congestion at Columbus Circle noted above.
