Hey runners,

Two morning races stage off the loop this weekend, then the week turns into a heat-management problem. Here’s how to time your runs.

Weather this week

Showery and mild through the weekend (mid-70s to mid-80s), then a heat wave builds Tuesday onward — 89°F Tue, 91°F Wed, 94°F Thu with afternoon thunderstorm chances. Get your long runs in over the cool, damp weekend mornings; from Tuesday on, run before 8 AM or skip the loop in the afternoon.

Sat Jun 27, ~8 AM — Front Runners NY LGBT Pride Run 4M

The Front Runners NY Pride Run stages at Bandshell Plaza and runs a 4-mile loop. Expect the lower-to-mid loop and the Mall to fill with runners and staging from roughly 7:30 to 10 AM. This is a loop event — don’t plan a clean tempo through the 60s–72nd St stretch in that window. Run before 7:30, after 10:30, or use the Reservoir / Bridle Path.

Sun Jun 28, ~8:15 AM — Achilles Hope & Possibility 4M

Achilles Hope & Possibility also stages at Bandshell Plaza — a 4-miler with a large adaptive-athlete field and handcycles on the course. The loop is busy and slower-moving 8 AM – 11 AM; give the field room. Run early, or head to the Reservoir track. Also note Dreamland Pride at SummerStage (Rumsey Playfield) runs 3–10 PM — spectator crowds spill toward East Drive near 72nd in the afternoon and evening.

Sat–Sun afternoons — Skate Circle at Dead Road

Central Park Skate Circle sets up at Dead Road North, 2–7 PM both days; the crowd edges toward West Drive near 72nd. Minor, but expect foot traffic if you’re doing an afternoon West Drive rep.

Tue Jul 1 – Thu Jul 2 — the heat, not the calendar

The loop is otherwise clear midweek, but the temperature is the obstacle. Tue 89°, Wed 91°, Thu 94°. Front-load before 8 AM, carry water (the Reservoir fountains are reliable), and treat Thursday afternoon as off-limits. SummerStage has shows Wed evening (SHABAKA et al., 5 PM at Rumsey) — minor East Drive spectator traffic near 72nd after work.

Cleanest windows: weekday early mornings and Sat before 7:30. Stay cool out there.
