Central Park Cycling Heads-Up: Fri Jun 26 – Thu Jul 2

Two weekend morning runs share the loop, the FIFA World Cup machinery is humming at Columbus Circle, and a heat wave lands midweek. Here’s the riding picture.

Weather this week

Damp and mild this weekend (mid-70s Sat with showers, mid-80s Sun), then a building heat wave — 89°F Tue, 91°F Wed, 94°F Thu, with afternoon thunderstorm risk Tue–Thu. The weekend mornings are your best loops; midweek, ride at dawn and watch the western sky for late-day storms.

Sat Jun 27, ~8 AM — Front Runners NY Pride Run 4M

A 4-mile running race stages at Bandshell Plaza and occupies the mid-loop 7:30–10 AM. Runners will be on the roadway through the 60s–72nd; ease your pace through there or ride before 7:30 / after 10:30. Counter-clockwise full laps aren’t worth fighting in that window.

Sun Jun 28 — Achilles 4M + Dreamland Pride spectators

Achilles Hope & Possibility 4M stages at Bandshell Plaza, ~8:15 AM, with a large handcycle and adaptive field on the course until ~11 AM — slow down and give wide berth. Then Dreamland: Pride in Central Park at SummerStage (Rumsey Playfield) runs 3–10 PM: heavy pedestrian flow crossing East Drive near 72nd all afternoon and evening. Ride the loop in the morning; the PM is for spectators, not pace.

All week — Columbus Circle / Merchants’ Gate congestion

FIFA World Cup bus operations are running at Columbus Circle (early mornings Sat & Tue onward). Expect extra pedestrian and vehicle churn at Merchants’ Gate on your way in and out — take the entrance wide and slow.

Tue Jul 1 – Thu Jul 2 — heat, clear roads

No loop closures midweek, but 89°/91°/94° makes afternoon riding rough. Dawn laps are the move; carry two bottles. SummerStage has a Wed-evening show (5 PM, Rumsey) — minor spectator crossings near 72nd after work.
