Central Park Family Plans: Sat Jun 13 – Fri Jun 19
Central Park Family Plans — Sat Jun 13 – Fri Jun 19
Hi families — Model Yacht Racing is back Saturday at Kerbs Boathouse, A Cappella in the Park fills the afternoon, and Friday brings Juneteenth in Seneca Village — one of the best family-friendly history events on the park calendar. Monday at 82°F is the week’s best all-day outing window; plan accordingly.
Weather this week
88°F Saturday, 84°F Sunday, 82°F Monday, 85°F Tuesday, 89°F Wednesday, 91°F Thursday, 87°F Friday. For kids, Saturday and Sunday mornings work if you arrive by 9 AM and leave by noon. Wednesday through Friday lean heavily toward early-morning or evening outings.
Sat 6/13 — Model Yacht Racing at Kerbs Boathouse (9 AM–3 PM), A Cappella 1–5 PM
Model Yacht Racing at Kerbs Boathouse, 9 AM–3 PM — the circular Conservatory Water pond, remote-controlled sailboats, benches, and shade trees nearby. Get there before 11 AM before the heat peaks. In the afternoon, A Cappella in the Park at King Jagiello Plaza runs 1–5 PM — free, family-friendly choral performances in a beautiful corner of the park. The NY State Golf Croquet Championship wraps up at Bowling Green Lawn today too, a fun spectator sport for older kids. East Meadow is closed all day.
Sun 6/14 — International Folk Dancers (11 AM–9 PM), East Meadow still closed
Central Park International Folk Dancers at King Jagiello Plaza all day (11 AM–9 PM) — colorful, participatory, and welcoming to families. Morning arrival (around 11 AM) means you catch the early energy before the afternoon heat. East Meadow closure continues; use the North Meadow on the east side or the Great Lawn for open play.
Mon 6/15 — Best day (82°F), Cherry Hill reopens
82°F and the best air quality of the week. Cherry Hill reopens today after maintenance — the fountain and lawn are back. The 40-in-Focus photography exhibit opens at the Arsenal (9 AM–5 PM, free) — not a dedicated family program, but the building’s first floor is accessible and the photographs are approachable for kids old enough to follow a story. Rowboats at the Loeb Boathouse are available; this is the week’s best weather day for that outing.
Tue 6/16 — Bowling Greens and Cedar Hill closed for maintenance
Bowling Greens and Cedar Hill are closed. Levin Playground also wraps up its maintenance period around today — check the Conservancy website for confirmation. Otherwise a clean mid-week day; 85°F is manageable in the morning.
Wed 6/17 — Wellness at the Park (Great Lawn, 9 AM–1 PM)
Wellness at the Park at the Great Lawn north side, 9 AM–1 PM — yoga and wellness programming. Families welcome; bring a blanket and join the edge if the kids want to try it. Otherwise a morning playground day before 89°F sets in.
Thu 6/18 — Columbus Circle Food Market
Columbus Circle Food Market is operating — a good morning destination before the 91°F peak arrives. Strollers and young kids do well at the market before 10 AM.
Fri 6/19 — Juneteenth in Seneca Village, 1–3 PM
Juneteenth in Seneca Village runs 1–3 PM on West Drive. This is the right event to bring older kids to: Seneca Village was a thriving free Black community in the 19th century, displaced when the park was built. The Conservancy’s programming here connects the park’s history to the city’s. It falls in the afternoon heat (87°F), so dress light and bring water. Julius Caesar at The Pool Lawns (5–10 PM) is an option for theater-curious families after Juneteenth.
