Julius Caesar + Barefoot Shakespeare close out — Sat Jun 6 – Fri Jun 12
Julius Caesar + Barefoot Shakespeare Close Out — Sat Jun 6 – Fri Jun 12
Theater fans — two Shakespeare companies run in parallel this week, with Julius Caesar at The Pool Lawns continuing through Friday and Barefoot Shakespeare at Summit Rock playing its final weekend Saturday–Sunday. Tango at the Shakespeare Statue Saturday evening adds unexpected performance energy to the same weekend.
Weather this week
93°F Saturday, 87°F Sunday, 79°F Monday, 85°F Tuesday, 90°F Wednesday, 92°F Thursday and Friday. All outdoor theater this week is evening-slotted (3–8 PM or 5–10 PM), which puts you in the more bearable part of each day. Saturday night carries a thunderstorm risk — bring a light layer to any outdoor show.
Sat 6/6 — Barefoot Shakespeare (likely final performance) + Julius Caesar + Tango
The fullest theater Saturday of the week:
Barefoot Shakespeare Presents June 2026 at Summit Rock, 3–8 PM — this appears to be the last day of their June run. Summit Rock is the park’s highest natural elevation on the west side; the Barefoot company does guerrilla outdoor Shakespeare in natural settings. Get there by 3:15 PM. 93°F is the challenge; Summit Rock has partial tree shade in the afternoon.
Julius Caesar (Part 2) at The Pool Lawns, 5–10 PM — the NY Classical production at the reflective pool near W. 100th Street. The Pool’s microenvironment is noticeably cooler than open areas on hot days. If you want both shows: Summit Rock at 3 PM, leave by 4:30, walk 20 minutes north to The Pool by 5 PM.
Tango at the Shakespeare Statue, 6–9 PM — outdoor tango at Shakespeare Statue Plaza. Not theater per se, but it’s Shakespeare-adjacent, free, and adds a performance dimension to a Saturday evening in the park.
Sun 6/7 — Both shows continue (87°F)
Barefoot Shakespeare continues at Summit Rock (3–8 PM) — potentially the penultimate or final performance; check their calendar. Julius Caesar at The Pool Lawns (5–10 PM). 87°F is more manageable than Saturday. Sunday evenings at The Pool have smaller, quieter crowds — one of the nicer ways to see this production.
Mon 6/8 — Julius Caesar continues (79°F)
Check the permit listing — the Julius Caesar permit block appears to run into the mid-June range. If there’s a Monday performance, 79°F makes it the week’s most comfortable evening for outdoor theater. No confirmed showtimes from the data; verify at the NYC Parks events page.
Tue 6/9 — Julius Caesar at The Pool + Naumburg concert double-header
Julius Caesar at The Pool Lawns (5–10 PM). The Baroklyn / Simone Dinnerstein Naumburg concert begins at 7:30 PM. If you want both: arrive at The Pool at 5 PM, leave at 7:15 PM, walk 15 minutes down to the Bandshell. A legitimate double-header evening.
Wed 6/10 — Julius Caesar at The Pool vs. NY Phil at the Great Lawn
Both running simultaneously on opposite sides of the park. Julius Caesar at The Pool (5–10 PM). NY Phil at the Great Lawn (8 PM, free, 60,000+ people). The choice between intimate outdoor Shakespeare and the largest crowd event of the summer is the week’s defining dilemma. The Pool wins on atmosphere; the Great Lawn wins on scale.
Thu 6/11 — Julius Caesar continues; Yellowcard at SummerStage
Julius Caesar at The Pool (5–10 PM). Yellowcard at Rumsey Playfield (6–10 PM, ticketed) — a different kind of live performance, but worth noting as the week’s concurrent big music event if you’re deciding between the two.
Fri 6/12 — Julius Caesar possibly closing night; 40-in-Focus opens at Arsenal
Julius Caesar at The Pool Lawns (5–10 PM) — the permit block appears to extend through June 12, which may be the closing night. 40 in Focus: SummerStage through the Lens of Jack Vartoogian opens at the Arsenal (9 AM–5 PM, free) — a photographic history of 40 years of outdoor performance in Central Park. Worth seeing alongside this week’s live runs.
