Central Park Sports This Week — Sat Jun 6 – Fri Jun 12
Hey sports fans — Mastercard Mini 10K shuts East Drive Saturday morning, softball and baseball are at full summer volume across all meadow complexes, and the NY State Golf Croquet Championship takes Bowling Green on Friday. Monday at 79°F is the week’s most comfortable day for any athletic activity.
Weather this week
93°F Saturday, 87°F Sunday, 79°F Monday, 85°F Tuesday, 90°F Wednesday, 92°F Thursday and Friday. Heat management is the story for every outdoor sport this week — early starts are essential.
Sat 6/6 — Mastercard Mini 10K: East Drive closed 8–10:30 AM (93°F)
Hard-include: the Mastercard Mini 10K races East Drive 8–10:30 AM (affects_loop: true). East Drive is closed to all other activity during the race. Field access via north entrances and the mid-park transverses is unaffected.
Saturday’s sports footprint:
- Softball adults: heavy permit load across Heckscher Fields and North Meadow (20+ games).
- Baseball 12-and-under and 13-and-older: full schedule at Heckscher.
- Model Yacht Racing at Kerbs Boathouse (Conservatory Water), 9 AM–3 PM.
- Kickball leagues active across multiple fields.
- Bowling Green Lawn: closed for maintenance all day.
- East Meadow: closed all day.
Sun 6/7 — Clean field day, 87°F
East Drive and West Drive clear. Baseball and softball continue across all meadow complexes. East Meadow closure carries over. 87°F — games starting at 8–9 AM are far more comfortable than those at noon.
Mon 6/8 — Lightest day, best conditions (79°F)
79°F and sunny — the week’s most comfortable day for athletic activity. CP Sports Summer Program runs weekday activations near E. 97th and W. 96th Streets. Otherwise lighter on adult league permits — good day for tennis or pickup.
Tue 6/9 — Full weekday schedule (85°F)
Full softball adult and baseball schedule for the midweek. Tennis courts at full summer booking. Kickball rosters active. 85°F — manageable with water and early starts.
Wed 6/10 — 90°F, Great Lawn offline from 3 PM for NY Phil
The Great Lawn is in NY Philharmonic pre-event setup from afternoon onward. Informal sports use of the Great Lawn (frisbee, touch football, general lawn access) is essentially offline from ~3 PM. North Meadow, Heckscher Fields, and East 102nd Street Clay Oval are unaffected. University Club Lawn Bowling event at Bowling Green (10 AM–3 PM).
Thu 6/11 — 92°F, full schedule
Full softball and baseball across all complexes. Yellowcard at SummerStage (Rumsey, 6–10 PM) draws a large evening crowd to the southeast sector but doesn’t touch the athletic fields.
Fri 6/12 — 92°F, NY State Golf Croquet Championship at Bowling Green (7 AM–6 PM)
New York State Golf Croquet Championship at Bowling Green Lawn, 7 AM–6 PM — the state championship running all day at the same Bowling Green that was closed for maintenance Saturday.
