Central Park Running Heads-Up: Sat Jun 6 – Fri Jun 12
Central Park Running Heads-Up — Sat Jun 6 – Fri Jun 12
Hey runners — the Mastercard Mini 10K shuts East Drive Saturday morning and 93°F arrives the same day. Monday at 79°F is the one clean, comfortable window of the week. Every other day is heat management.
Weather this week
93°F Saturday, 87°F Sunday, 79°F Monday, 85°F Tuesday, 90°F Wednesday, 92°F Thursday, 92°F Friday. The heat doesn’t let up after Monday — front-load any quality work early in the week.
Sat 6/6 — Mastercard Mini 10K: East Drive closed 8–10:30 AM (93°F)
Hard-include: the Mastercard Mini 10K races East Drive starting 8 AM through roughly 10:30 AM. East Drive is closed for training during that window. With 93°F arriving by midday, the only viable option is pre-dawn — get on the loop before 6 AM, finish by 7:30, beat both the race setup and the heat. The course clears after 11 AM but the temperature makes afternoon running genuinely unsafe. East Meadow closed all day.
Sun 6/7 — Clean loop, 87°F
No loop events. Dawn start (before 7 AM) for the cooler air and shade on the Bridle Path and Reservoir track. East Meadow closure carries over.
Mon 6/8 — Best day of the week (79°F, clean loop)
This is the day. 79°F, sunny, nothing on the drives. Long run, quality session, or anything that requires full effort — do it Monday. The DJ Ali Bandshell Rave runs 3–7 PM but has no loop impact.
Tue 6/9 — Clean loop, 85°F
Still manageable in the morning. Baroklyn / Naumburg concert at 7:30 PM brings an evening crowd to the Bandshell area but doesn’t touch the drives. Run in the morning.
Wed 6/10 — 90°F, NY Phil crowd near Great Lawn from afternoon
90°F. The NY Philharmonic plays the Great Lawn at 8 PM — crowd assembles from around 3–4 PM, filling the central-park paths between Rumsey Playfield and the Great Lawn. Drives stay clear; run in the morning before the crowd builds.
Thu 6/11 — 92°F, SummerStage at Rumsey 6–10 PM
Yellowcard at SummerStage doesn’t touch the loop drives. 92°F demands pre-dawn running only — or skip to Friday morning.
Fri 6/12 — 92°F, Carlos Konig Salsa at Bandshell 5–8 PM
Same 92°F ceiling with a slight shower chance. The Salsa at Bandshell (5–8 PM) and Julius Caesar at The Pool Lawns (5–10 PM) are both off the loop. Pre-dawn or early-morning only. The 40-in-Focus exhibit opens at the Arsenal today if you want a post-run reason to stop in.
