Central Park Guide for Sports Fans — Mon May 25 – Sun May 31
Hey sports fans,
The week is built around three races and a full youth league weekend. J.P. Morgan Corporate Challenge takes East Drive Wednesday AND Thursday evenings in 2026 — the race has expanded to a two-night format this year, 6:45 PM start each evening. CRCA’s Central Park Racing Series crit goes off Saturday 4–7 AM, and Saturday brings NYRR’s Open Run at the Great Lawn plus the Montefiore Adaptive Sports Festival at the Tennis Courts. Adult and youth softball/baseball/tennis fields are mostly active Tue–Sun after Monday’s washout.
Weather this week
Stormy Memorial Day (74°F, 84% precip) washes out all field play. Tue–Sun is beautiful — dry, Wednesday peaking at 83°F, rest 77–80°F. Field conditions on Tuesday will be heavy from Monday’s rain — heads-up if you’re playing early.
Mon May 25 (Memorial Day) — washout, fields closed
Thunderstorms all day, 74°F. All field play likely cancelled — softball, tennis, t-ball, kickball. Corporate Challenge staging trucks arrive at South Dead Road and Bandshell Plaza despite the rain. Indoor day.
Tue May 26 — fields drying, light league play
80°F partly sunny. Heckscher, North Meadow, and Great Lawn are likely playable by afternoon but morning fields will be heavy. Tennis Courts dry fast — adult tennis tournaments and bookings should be on. CP Sports mini-camp programming begins at South Dead Road Wednesday (heads-up for the south end).
Wed May 27 — Corporate Challenge race night 1 of 2, 83°F
83°F mostly sunny. Corporate Challenge race night 1 of 2, 6:45 PM start, East Drive — 3.5-mile course, the corporate-team flagship NYC race of the year, first year as a two-night event (Central Park Conservancy is the 2026 beneficiary). Watch from Bandshell Plaza for the start/finish area; East 72nd Street and Cherry Hill are good mid-race vantages. Heat will be a story — 83°F is the warmest start the Corporate Challenge has seen in recent years. CP Sports Mini-camp at South Dead Road 9:30 AM.
Thu May 28 — Corporate Challenge race night 2 of 2 + fields full
80°F mostly sunny. Corporate Challenge race night 2 of 2, 6:45 PM start — same East Drive course. Full adult and youth field play Tue–Thu — Heckscher (softball, soccer training), North Meadow (softball, t-ball), Tennis Courts (tournament play heating up), and the East 102nd Street Clay Oval (Little League). Conservancy Women’s Committee at Chess and Checkers House 8 AM — chess and game-day event, two consecutive days. Columbus Circle Food Market at Merchants’ Gate 9:30 AM.
Fri May 29 — clean Friday, league play continues
78°F mostly sunny. Field schedules continue across Heckscher, North Meadow, Great Lawn, the Clay Oval, and Tennis Courts. Maria Benvenuto at Cop Cot 6 PM (small acoustic, not sports but in the south-end mix). Otherwise a normal Friday in spring.
Sat May 30 — the racing day: CRCA crit + NYRR Open Run + Adaptive Sports Festival
77°F mostly sunny. The lineup:
- CRCA Central Park Racing Series, East Drive 4–7 AM — open crit racing on the loop, A-B-C fields, the first big CRCA Saturday of the stretch
- NYRR Open Run at the Great Lawn, 8 AM — free 5K, no-reg, the casual-runner counterpart to CRCA’s morning
- Montefiore Adaptive Sports Festival, Tennis Courts, 11 AM — inclusive sports day, worth checking out as a spectator
- Model Yacht Racing at Kerbs Boathouse, 9 AM — Conservatory Water, the small-craft tradition
- Cast for Kids at The Pond, 9 AM — fishing, gear provided
- Skate Circle at Dead Road North, 2 PM
Full field play across the park behind those events. East Meadow is closed all weekend.
Sun May 31 — recovery day + Folkdancers
74°F partly sunny. Lighter field schedule Sunday — youth softball and t-ball morning slots, adult tennis bookings in the afternoon. Folkdancers at King Jagiello Plaza 11 AM (cultural, not sports). Skate Circle at Dead Road North 2 PM. East Meadow still closed.
