Central Park Week Ahead: May 10–16
Central Park Week Ahead: May 10–16
Hello,
Your weekly digest of what’s happening in Central Park. After last week’s Five Boro Bike Tour, this is a notably calmer week — though the park’s spring cadence is becoming clear: weekend races, midweek charity rides, weekend skating, an ongoing theater production at The Pool.
The headline events
Sun May 10 — Mother’s Day. The park’s most family-attended day of the year aside from Easter. Bethesda Terrace, Cop Cot, Ladies’ Pavilion, Bow Bridge, Cherry Hill all see overlapping ceremonies and celebrations. Race of Hope NYC on 102nd 8:30 AM–noon. Folkdancers at King Jagiallo 11 AM–7 PM. Skate Circle returns 2–7 PM.
Wed May 13 — Pedals of Honor 2026. Charity cycling event on the 102nd Street Cross Drive, 9 AM–3 PM. Honors fallen military and first responders. Plus Bill Popp and the Tapes at Bandshell, 5–7 PM.
Sat May 16 — busy day. CRCA Central Park Racing Series on East Drive (4–8:30 AM). Model Yacht Racing at Kerbs (9 AM–3 PM). Sacred Sites Open House Day 1 at Mineral Springs (10 AM–3 PM). PS 77 Spring Festival at Levin Playground lawn (2–5 PM). East Meadow closed all day.
Continuing all week
- Julius Caesar at The Pool Lawns, daily 10 AM–9 PM through Sun May 19. The headline ongoing production.
- Shakespeare Garden — daily 4-minute maintenance window around 11:06 AM (negligible)
Closures
- East Meadow / Picnic Zone: closed Sun 5/10 and Sat 5/16
- Bowling Green Lawn: closed all day Tue 5/12; closed until 2 PM Fri 5/15 (maintenance)
- No playground closures this week
Pattern observations
Looking at the week alongside last week, the park’s spring rhythm is consolidating:
- Sundays = races + Skate Circle. Race of Hope this Sunday, last Sunday was the Bike Tour finish. The pattern continues most Sundays through summer.
- Wednesdays around 102nd Street. Pedals of Honor is the second multi-hour 102nd event in two weeks (last was the Olmsted Luncheon at the adjacent Engineers’ Gate). That corner is becoming a hot spot.
- The Pool Lawns has been claimed by Julius Caesar staging for the entire month. Watch whether a second production rolls in after May 19.
