Julius Caesar at The Pool — All Week: May 3–9
Julius Caesar at The Pool — All Week: May 3–9
Hey theater fans,
Big week for outdoor Shakespeare. Read on.
The headline — Julius Caesar at The Pool
Julius Caesar runs Mon May 4 through Sat May 9 (and into Sun May 10), every day from 10 AM to 9 PM, on The Pool Lawns — that’s the quiet wooded pond between West 100th and 103rd, just inside the park from CPW.
This is one of those Central Park productions that uses the landscape itself as set. The Pool’s island, the willows, the surrounding wooded slope — they’re all part of the staging. Bring a blanket. Bring snacks. Wear layers; it cools off fast in that part of the park.
A few notes:
- Daily runtime 10 AM–9 PM covers tech, rehearsal, performance, and strike. Best to check the company’s schedule for the actual show times — the long window is the production footprint, not the curtain
- Sightlines are best from the north and east lawns
- Pool Lawns are walk-up, no fixed seating — get there 30+ min early on weekend nights
Other theatrical happenings this week
- Copper Hills HS Dance Flash Mob at Bethesda Fountain Terrace, Sun 5/3, 12:15–1 PM. Brief, charming, well-staged.
- Central Park International Folkdancers at King Jagiallo Plaza, Sun 5/3, 11 AM–7 PM. Costumed performance with live music — closer to dance theater than concert.
- Escanaba HS Band Performance at Bandshell, Mon 5/4, 2–3 PM. Not theater proper, but a touring high-school stage show in a great venue.
Looking ahead — Barefoot Shakespeare
Barefoot Shakespeare Company opens their June run May 28–30 at the Bandshell. We’ll cover that closer to the date — flagging now so you can put it on the calendar.
