Central Park Sports This Week: May 3–9

Hey sports fans,

Spring league season is fully underway. Here’s what to catch this week if you like watching games — or finding open fields.

Today (Sun May 3) — busy day on the diamonds

Little League baseball is everywhere. Games running 8 AM through evening across:

• Great Lawn Softball fields 1–6 (multiple games, most start 8 AM)
• North Meadow Softball field 9 (games through 6 PM)
• Heckscher Fields Softball field 4 (afternoon games)

If you want to catch competitive 12U baseball, the Great Lawn around midday is the place. Multiple games running side by side — easy to wander.

Other today: Football – Youth at Heckscher Soccer-01 in the early evening.

TD Five Boro Bike Tour finish (Sun 5/3, 7 AM–noon)

If you like watching endurance events, Center Drive and East Drive between 6 PM Saturday setup and noon Sunday finish is the place. 32,000 cyclists rolling through, big finish festival energy.

Mon–Fri — weekday games

• Soccer training (James Christie group) at Lawn North of Levin and South Dead Road A, midday into afternoon — drop in to watch developmental sessions
• Youth football & soccer at Heckscher-01, late afternoons
• Little League baseball continues evenings on most fields

Thu May 7 — Lawn Bowling night

University Club Lawn Bowling at Bowling Green Lawn (yes, in Central Park) 6–8 PM. Strange and wonderful. If you’ve never watched lawn bowling, go.

Sat May 9 — model boats and skating

• Model Yacht Racing at Kerbs Boathouse, 9 AM–3 PM. Conservatory Water gets remote-controlled sailboats racing on the pond. Free and oddly mesmerizing.
• Central Park Skate Circle at Dead Road North, 2–7 PM. Skaters of every level, music, crowds — closer to spectacle than sport, but unmissable when it returns.
