Central Park Music & Performance: Week of May 3–9
Central Park Music & Performance: Week of May 3–9
Hey music fans,
The Bandshell is busy this week and there’s a few off-the-beaten-path performances worth catching. Here’s the rundown.
Today (Sun May 3)
Three things happening, all free:
- Arise New York — Bandshell Plaza, 12–6 PM. Outdoor festival lineup, full afternoon.
- Copper Hills HS Dance Flash Mob — Bethesda Fountain Terrace, 12:15–1 PM. Short, joyful, photographable.
- Central Park International Folkdancers — King Jagiallo Plaza (75th & CPE), 11 AM–7 PM. Live music, costumed dancing, traditional repertoire from around the world.
Easy plan: catch the flash mob at 12:15 at Bethesda, walk up to the Bandshell for Arise, then drift over to King Jagiallo in the late afternoon if you’ve got energy.
Mon May 4 — Escanaba HS Band
The Escanaba HS Band performs at the Bandshell, 2–3 PM. Touring high school band — short set, but a sweet weekday lunchtime stop if you’re nearby.
Tue May 5 — World Prayer for Peace, Unity and Diversity
Bandshell Plaza, 11 AM–7 PM. Daylong program of music, speakers, and performances from a wide range of communities. Worth dropping in for an hour.
Fri May 8 — The MGP Experience and Fandango NYC
Bandshell Plaza, 1–4 PM. The kind of Bandshell afternoon that justifies skipping out on work early.
A few quieter notes
- Yoga in Central Park: the Artist Series at Mineral Springs (Tue 5/5, 6:30–7:30 PM). It’s a yoga class, but the “Artist Series” framing means there’s a live musician — could be a nice low-key evening.
- The Bandshell’s quiet on Wed and Thu — good days to walk through without crowds.
